Unit Description
This interactive lesson introduces foundational concepts of communication in patient care, with a focus on how non-verbal behavior influences trust, clarity, and outcomes. Built in Articulate Storyline 360, the first unit includes a series of structured content slides and embedded click-based knowledge checks.
Learners engage in:
Matching terms to definitions
Identifying non-verbal behaviors
Completing a culminating formative checkpoint to assess key takeaways
These activities reinforce distinctions between verbal and non-verbal communication using immediate, explanatory feedback. I independently designed the instructional flow, created all content, produced narration and visuals, and acted as the subject matter expert for this unit. Instructional strategies were informed by research-based multimedia learning principles (Clark & Mayer, 2024), including:
Segmenting: Presenting information in manageable chunks
Feedback: Offering real-time corrective or reinforcing responses
Personalization: Using conversational narration to maintain engagement
All narration was written and recorded by the instructional designer. Audio was edited and captioned in Adobe Premiere Pro, then manually synced in Storyline. Development occurred on a Mac system using Parallels for Windows compatibility.
This minimum viable product (MVP) includes Unit 1. Additional modules are currently in development.
